Junto con el Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Uaymil y la Reserva de la Biosfera Arrecifes de Sian Ka’an conforman el Complejo Sian Ka´an con un área de 652 mil 192.97 hectáreas y comparten un solo programa de manejo. Están situadas en los municipios de Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Tulum, Bacalar y Othón P. Blanco, en Quintana Roo.
